Termidor is the chemical barrier product I use for termite treatment. It is applied to the soil around and under a home, and because it is undetectable to termites, they walk through it without avoiding it. Termites then carry the chemical back to the colony on their bodies and pass it on to others, so the barrier reaches termites that never contact the treated soil directly. That transfer effect is what makes it effective against the colony, not just the termites you can see.

How the barrier is applied

A chemical barrier goes into the soil around the perimeter of the home and at key entry points, forming a continuous treated zone that termites need to cross to reach the timber. It is a soil treatment, not a treatment of the structure itself, which is why correct placement and coverage matter as much as the product.

The transfer effect explained

Termidor’s key property is that termites cannot detect it in the soil, so they move through it normally rather than avoiding the area the way they would with a repellent product. As they pass through, they pick up the chemical and carry it back to the colony, where it is transferred to other termites through normal contact. Over time this spreads through a larger portion of the colony than direct contact alone would reach, which is the main reason it is the barrier I use on post-construction jobs.

Why annual inspections still matter after treatment

A chemical barrier carries an 8-year warranty on post-construction work, but that warranty is conditional on keeping up annual inspections. The barrier is a treated zone in the soil, not a permanent seal, and ground disturbance, renovations, or gaps over time can affect coverage. An annual check confirms the barrier is still doing its job and keeps the warranty valid.

Common questions

How does Termidor actually kill termites?
Termites cannot detect it in the soil, so they pass through it, pick it up, and carry it back to the colony, where it transfers to other termites through contact. It works on the colony over time, not just the individuals in the treated soil.

Is Termidor safe to use around the home?
It is applied to the soil by a licensed operator following the product’s application method, which is the standard approach for post-construction chemical barriers in Australia.

How long does a Termidor barrier last?
On post-construction work it typically carries an 8-year warranty, provided annual inspections are kept up to confirm the barrier is still intact.
